Why another Sticky Notes Tool…
Well, The latest Windows version comes with a very handy tool called “Sticky Notes” Once used to this you’ll miss it when working in Windows XP or Vista. At least that was my experience. After searching the internet for existing Sticky Notes tools I haven’t been able to find one to serve my needs. All of them have too many ballast like reminders, schedulers etc.. (Outlook handles this far better).
This motivated me to develop my own version that would also work within Windows XP (or any windows version, as long as it has .Net framework 3.5 installed).
One of the advantages of developing your own application is that you can put every feature (but not more than you need) in you wish for. As a result I have created an improved but simple enough lightweight version of the Sticky Notes utility, called StickyNotes7. It’s very easy to install and use this lightweight tool.
Because of the easy “install” (just extract the files anywhere on your harddisk or network, make a shortcut in your startupfolder and start StickyNotes7.exe) it is possible to use StickyNotes7 on any pc with .Net Framework 3.5 installed, even if you have limited user rights.
This note will appear at first start. Here is a short introduction…
Features
Toolbar for applying formats: Right click menu for choosing colors and
tell the note to stay on top or not:
![]()
Also a system tray icon is available wich provides the following options:
Updater – Manually check for updates
Info – Shows some info about StickyNotes7
Donate – StickyNotes7 is free to use. However you can show your appreciation by donating .
Hide Notes – Tired of looking at the Notes? (Can’t imagine that
) Hide them all at once using this option. After that the option changes to Show notes (number of notes hidden).
Move Notes To Left – In case you use StickyNotes7 on a network on different pc’s, it can happen that your notes are placed outside the bounds of your screen (when moving to a smaller screen or from a dual to one). If this happens you can move all notes to the left (and top), so you can reach them again.
Exit Sticky Notes 7 – Closes application.
New Note – Use this to create a new note.
When hovering your mouspointer over the top of a note, a “plus” and “close” button will appear. Closing a note will also delete it permanently. ![]()
That’s it. FAQ’s

Edge 605/705 software version 2.50

The issue I adressed in my previous post should be solved in this release from Garmin:
Change History
Changes made from version 2.40 to 2.50:
- Implemented change to allow the user to access Map Setup option for tracks which will allow showing that track on a map, and what color to display it in.
- Added ability to set Off-Route Recalculation behavior in Routing menu. User can set it to Automatic, Off, or Prompted.
- Fixed issue with long routes shutting down.
- Fixed issue where Autopause and Start/Stop were not getting saved into the History files. This could also cause Courses created from this History to not register these times.
- Fixed issue where History files would occasionally not upload due to misaligned data.
- Fixed inaccurate elevation when moving to and from areas with distinctly different altitudes or atmospheric pressures.
- Fixed random elevation spike in the first few track points.
- Added the ability to delete tracks.
- Fixed issue where speed would drop to 0 going through turns.
- Fixed issue where viewing a Course on a map went to the wrong location.
- Fixed barometer initialization issues in situations where the unit is turned off and back on within 5 minutes in the same location.
- Fixed issue with Course List where actions could be applied to the wrong Course.
- Fixed issue where course guidance lines were drawn on top of roads.
- Fixed issue with repeated Autopausing when using a wheel sensor.
- Fixed issue with creating a Workout with Spanish language selected.
- Improved German translations.
Garmin Edge 650: Still inadvertent shutdowns after upgrading to 2.40

I am using the Garmin Edge 605 for a few months now. Recently I upgraded the software to 2.40. In this release the following issues are attended:
Changes made from version 2.30 to 2.40:
Fixed problem where stopping and restarting the timer could cause invalid track points.
- Fixed problem where an invalid power value could be logged when stopping and restarting the timer.
- Improve battery checking to remove inadvertent shutdowns.
- Fixed problem where speed sensor data was not used when GPS signal was lost.
- Fixed problem where low or 0 speed could be recorded prior to a turn.
But unfortunatly one issue (the inadvertent shutdowns) still remains. So I asked the Garmin Support Desk if they know what to do:
When in navigation mode the Edge 605 shuts down approx. once every hour. I have version 2.40 installed.
Turns out that Garmin is working on this issue. Their response on my question was:
We are aware of an issue regarding this problem which our engineers are looking to resolve with a software update. Unfortunatley we don’t have any times of when this will be released. I would suggest making sure that you have our webupdater http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=931 program installed and check it within the next few months.

Vista Is ‘a Work in Progress’

As PC users clamor for Microsoft to continue to support Windows XP, company CEO Steve Ballmer called the Vista OS “a work in progress” at an annual Seattle event on Thursday.
“It’s a very important piece of work. We did a lot of things right and have a lot of things we need to learn from. You never want to let five years go between releases,” he said.
While Microsoft recently extended the date when the XP software will be available for low-cost PCs, it doesn’t plan to listen to some other complaints, including that Vista is too big. “Vista is bigger than XP and it’s gonna stay bigger than XP,” Ballmer said. “We have to make sure it doesn’t get bigger still.”
During the lively session, peppered with flag waving by a rowdy group of
Canadians, hoots and applause, Ballmer spoke about a few other key areas that the company will focused on in the near future. “It’s virtualization time for Microsoft,” he said. “We’re gonna make sure we democratize virtualization.” Probably less than 5 percent of servers in the world are virtualized today, he said. “It’s too darn expensive and too hard to manage. We intend to take major strides around addressing both of those.”
He also said to expect more work from Microsoft in the search market. “There’s an opportunity to knock the socks off in terms of innovation,” he said.
Once Microsoft introduces some blog services later this year, Ballmer intends to ask its MVPs (Most Valuable Professionals) to switch their default searches to Live Search for one week. After that week, he’ll ask for their feedback about what they liked and what they didn’t, as part of a broad effort to improve Microsoft’s third-place standing in the search market.
Another key area for the future of Microsoft is services. Overall, the use of hosted services worldwide is small, but Ballmer expects that in two to three years there will be an inflection point after which millions of people will use hosted services, he said.
There are 4,000 Microsoft MVPs around the world, and nearly 1,800 of them gathered in Seattle this week for an annual summit. MVPs are technology experts who provide feedback to Microsoft about its products — Ballmer said they are his favorite group to address.
The topics Ballmer tackled during his talk were sometimes similar, but much broader compared to the big issue that he, Bill Gates and Paul Allen, Microsoft’s founders, discussed while beginning to develop software at Harvard University. “Our strategy and mission have expanded,” Ballmer said. In the very beginning, year after year, Allen would approach Gates with the idea to start building computers. And each time Gates sagely said, ‘No, Paul, we’re not hardware guys,’” Ballmer said. “We’re on that same strategy 30 years later … but we do have an expansive vision.”
